Fantastic evening by all involved, Dunvant RFC U9’s vs Gorseinon Rugby Club followed by the mighty Vets versus Aberavon XXL. The Vets match was won by Dunvant 41-17 in a game played in great spirit.

Following the match, a charity auction was held in the club in aid of the Nathan Ford Fundraising Fund. We are pleased to say that over £1800 was raised on the night from gate receipts and the auction, a huge thank you to everyone involved especially the Aberavon players who supported the night greatly and also auctioneer Richard Lewis who has found his new vocation.

A massive thank you to all that donated prizes and those that purchased items.

#FordFest - OctoberFest

An amazing effort and thank you so much to all who helped arrange and contributed to a fantastic day at Oktoberfest #fordfest on Saturday 16th October. Thanks to all at Dunvant RFC who made the club available for the event and provided the perfect facilities for the day.

The day kicked off at around 2pm with everyone arriving in their classic German Lederhosen attire. Steins of beers were in full flow, German bratwurst sausages were on the grill and live music was getting people in the mood from the kick-off.  Thank you to the bands The Rockerleles, In with the Jellyfish, Crab Island Co and DJ Neil Navarra who all provided great music entertainment from start to finish.

The total raised from the event was just over 6k!! Incredible! What an amazing effort – Well done all and thanks again so much! Bet there were a few sore heads on the Sunday, but all worth it no doubt!

Very pleased by the rumours that the event could be held again next year, which we think would prove to be a popular decision my many! Thanks again everyone who attended or supported the event, and to Richard Lewis and all who helped arrange the day!

Run For Nath

On Sunday 10th October, hundreds of runners of all abilities came together and took part in the 5 mile “Run for Nath” arranged by Gary Howells and the team a Peak Performance Wales.  The weather couldn’t be been better and people set off from HYVE and T1 Café Lounge at 11 am on the stunning route along the Wales Coastal Path. Many runners also took part virtually, doing their 5 miles or more in support for Nath.

Many were sporting their Team NFT attire – supplied and printed by James Gwyther and the team and J+S Products, Tycoch, thanks so much for sorting the NFT t-shirts!

It was great to see such an amazing turnout and also really heart-warming to see the kids taking part – Nathans nephew’s Elliot and Seb (Elliot completing the whole 5 miles after 3 games of rugby) – as well as other kids, all doing their bit and crossing the finishing line and picking up the awesome Team NFT medal for Nath which meant so much!

Big shout out to Team NFT Athletes James Collier and James Fishlock for taking 1st and 2nd place – awesome effort guys. Well done to every single person who turned up to run the race or cheer on the runners. Seeing all the pics of everyone with their Team NFT medals is amazing! Well done and thanks, everyone!

Thanks again to Gary Howells, Peak Performance Wales and the team at HYVE and T1 Café Lounge for arranging the event and hosting.  It was a great morning, something that Nathan would certainly be proud of. Cracking beer too!! Which I’m sure was definitely appreciated by all!

Everest For Nath

29038 ft, 62 miles, 34 hours of hiking time over 69 hours from starting the challenge and an amazing £5,367 raise for Nathan!!

Close friends of Nathan, Richard, Mark, Rich and Khalil completed what can only be described as an amazing challenge to climb the equivalent of Mount Everest over a three day period. Take a look at how the climb panned out over the three days

Day 1:

Coledale horseshoe – 10 miles, 4100ft, 4hrs hiking.

Brilliant and stunning start to the challenge. The weather was kind apart from gales on the high peaks! We didn’t get lost…much(!) and saw some absolutely amazing views.

Made it back with only 45 mins of headtorch required just in time for last meal orders at the pub.

Doing it for the main man @nathanfordtriathlon

Day 2:

Bogs, cloud, rain and gales!

Another epic day in the mountains. 16+ miles of slog over 10hours.

7800ft of elevation gained to add in our quest for the Everest summit.

We do it for the main man Nathan.

We are all extremely sore, battered and bruised now but we see the end in sight tomorrow.

Day 3:

We did it!

Another huge day yesterday to complete our challenge!

The 3rd 5am alarm clock in a row and hiking by 0645hrs on Helvellyn.

Weather has got progressively worse each day this week and we were drenched and battered with more gales at the top. Freezing cold, we descended and did a few repetitions up and down on the path to get some more elevation gain.

A quick drive over to base of cat bells and the final climb for the Everest summit.

More driving wind and rain and we finally got there, 29038ft, 62miles, 34hours of hiking time and 69 hours after starting the challenge.

Thanks so much for all your donations and sharing of our challenge.

Also, a very big thank you to Harcourt Colour Print (Sam & Lucy Fender) for supplying the banner and cards for the Everest Climb. It was really appreciated. Thanks, guys.

Charity Golf Day

Fairwood Park Golf Club has raised over £10,000 for local charities thanks to their recent Captains Charity Golf Day.

The annual event, which this year took place on Friday 17th September, was organised by club captain Peter Kissick and club member Peter Honey-Jones and included a raffle and auction.

“The day was a huge success,” said Mr Kissick, “and I would like to thank everyone involved in the organising of the event as well as all the players and businesses who supported us.”

With a target figure of £7.5k, the golf day was raising much-needed funds for local charities that included All With Nath, The Brook Lily Foundation, Kids Cancer Charity and Young Lives Vs Cancer – organisations that have close ties with the club and the area.

“Every year we look to raise money for charity,” continued Mr Kissick, “however, this year was slightly different as we included All With Nath at the latter stages of the event planning in order to do as much as we could to support Nathan and his family.”

Nathan Ford, a talented Middle Distance triathlete from Killay in Swansea suffered a tragic accident while competing in the British Triathlon Championships in Aberfeldy, Scotland in August.

“Nathan came off his bike at high speed during the race,” explained Peter Honey-Jones, “and is currently in intensive care after being diagnosed with serious brain and spinal injuries.”

Having grown up in the area, Nathan was known to many people at the club including organisers Peter Kissick and Peter Honey-Jones, as Mr Honey-Jones explained.

“Nathan is a close friend of both mine and Peter’s children and we decided that we needed to do everything we could to support the family members in their effort to raise funds for Nathan’s care and rehabilitation.”

Flo’s Lemonade Stall

Florence wanted to say a huge thank you to everyone who turned up to show their support at Flo’s Lemonade Stand on the 18th of September. The messages of well wishes and support for Nathan were flowing constantly throughout the ride! Thank you so much for everyone's messages and to all who turned out for the ride in support of Nath.

On Saturday 11th September, Chris Ware and the team at The Warehouse Gym put on a super fitness challenge in support of Nathan who was a former member of the gym and who has many friends there. The turnout was superb, with many early risers turning out in their numbers, being put through their paces by Chris and the team.

Again, all funds raised went to Nathans rehabilitation fund. Another great challenge, and just shows how many people are behind Nathan.  Thank you to all and for the team at The Warehouse! Great effort all.

Neath and Morriston Fire Stations Charity Car wash!

Fireman Sam and his team of firefighters put on separate charity car washes over two separate weekends, with all money raised going to Nathan and his family. Another amazing effort by all, with members of Nathans family and friends also helping out.

So many clean cars, but more importantly so many generous people. So many communities coming together to show their support.

Thanks for all at both Fire stations!

Done and Dusted Café – 24 hour Wattbike Challenge

Amazing event held on 5th/6th September raising great amounts in support of Nathan and his family. Neil Navarra and the team at Done and Dusted arranged for a “24 Hour Wattbike Challenge” where riders were given slots over a 24 hour period all riding and doing their bit supporting Nathan!

Some riders rode on what was called the “graveyard” shift” in the early hours. Great effort from all and thank you to all at Done and Dusted Café and all who donated!

Ride For Nath

Thank you to everyone who supported the Ride For Fordy on Bank Holiday Monday 31st August. It was amazing to see such support, including donations given on the way.

15 of Nathan’s friends set off from Killay and made their way to Mumbles collecting donations along the route.

Speaking about the bike ride, Andrew Kissick said: “The generosity of the public was fantastic, we raised around £200.

“Verdi's and Bistrot Pierre said we could leave collection buckets with them for the week too."

Thank you to everyone who saw us all out!
